Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home 1986) - Classic Reunion

My favorite Star Trek flick of all.  Cpt. Kirk & crew visit our world.  At last, Star Trek reaches the humor only Star Wars was able to reach for a science fiction drama.  It turns into euphoric chases and hijinks throughout the streets of San Francisco.
The writing was true genius.  Kirk meets his match, not against an evil mastermind but in countering the wits of the beautiful Dr. Gillian, a marine biologist.  He doesn't even get to finish his romance, as she gets away to join her own ship.  The plot itself concocts a highly creative notion that one of our own space satellites returns to us after amassing the intelligence of other worlds and somehow connects its roots back to Earth, as being spawned by whale song, which becomes extinct in the future, and the probe is destroying Earth in search of whales.  Spock "feels fine," as he has the most emotional reunion with dad.  The movie champions the cause of whale conservation instead of just another plot to save the world.  It also reveals something about ourselves outside the goldfish bowl, as a violent and "paranoid" society that still has a lot to learn about science.
No Oscars again, but it came the closest for the original crew with 4 nominations.  At least Star Trek finally wins an Oscar in 2010 with the most recent officer detail.  If that's the case, the original crew deserved an Oscar themselves.  This one gets a TOUCHDOWN from me!
